What to expect on your first visit

Your Journey to recovery starts with SOS Physiotherapy.

At your first appointment it is advisable to bring:

  • any x-rays or scans you have had recently;
  • your health fund or pension card;
  • a GP referral (if available, but not necessary)
  • insurance details or WorkCover medical certificate;
  • EPC referral or patient care plan where applicable;
  • DVA referral form or a current veterans affair card.

On your first visit you will be asked to arrive for your appointment about 5 minutes early so that we can provide you will all the relevant information and to ensure there is enough time to fill out the appropriate forms required by your physiotherapist.

Your first treatment session.

Your first treatment session will last for 30-40 mins and your physiotherapist will do a full examination to work out your diagnosis, discuss this with you and let you know what is required to get you feeling better! You will be under the care of the same physiotherapist throughout the entire course of your treatment to ensure a smooth and rapid recovery without any unnecessary delays.

Your physiotherapist will perform a detailed assessment of your condition. This session could include hands-on treatment, the use of specific stretch and strengthening exercises to be performed either at home or in our gym. You might be required to have an x-ray or other diagnostic tests to choose the most appropriate therapy to suit your condition. Most musculoskeletal problems can be addressed by a physiotherapist and if you require any other assessment your physiotherapist will liaise with your GP or Specialist.

Once your physiotherapist has assessed your condition and diagnosed the problem they will make sure you understand what’s wrong. They will work with you to develop an effective treatment plan that takes into account your lifestyle, leisure activities and general health. This will include advice on how you can help yourself.

Our goal at SOS Physiotherapy is to ensure that the underlying problem is corrected and that the risk of the pain recurring is minimised.

Our treatment programs combine hands-on treatment with specifically structured exercises to give you long-term freedom from pain!
